Alpha & Omega Ministries

 NCCCAOM

New Covenant Christian Church is located in Denver, CO. It was founded as a “mission” church by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1950. The mission area targeted was the neighborhood of Park Hill. Thus, the church’s original name was Park Hill Christian Church. Park Hill began as a predominantly White congregation which was consistent with neighborhood demographics at the time. During the 1960’s both the neighborhood and the church’s demographics changed with as the racial dynamics flipped in traditional neighborhoods and communities.

By the late 60’s PHCC had become a predominantly African-American congregation calling its first African-American pastor, Rayford Pouncy, in 1968. The church struggled to get its footing and identity over the next couple of decades. In 1983, Park Hill CC called its first female pastor who also happened to be African-American and Church Developer Rev. Deborah Thompson. Rev. Thompson guided the Church to a place of spiritual health and growth through a very difficult period in its history.

In 1988, the Church called Rev. Reginald Holmes to pastor the church. In five years the church experienced unprecedented growth and expanded beyond its Park Hill location. In 1997 the church purchased the old Beth Joseph synagogue in Denver for $1.8 million dollars. At the time it was the largest facility ever purchased by an African-American church in Denver history. The church’s location was no longer in the Park Hill community, the congregation decided to change its name to a more biblical and portable name which would not change based on a change in location. The name was voted on by the congregation and changed to New Covenant Christian Church in 1997.

In 2014, New Covenant Christian church joined ministries with Alpha and Omega Ministries and, thus, our new name: New Covenant Christian Church Alpha and Omega Ministries. What one will find when visiting or joining is a loving community of believers. The church is an ever-evolving ministry adapting to the times and responding to the changes in a world that calls us to minister to with grace and mercy. At NCCCAOM we take seriously to call of God to go into the world and make disciples. When invite you to be a part of this ever evolving ministry that has Christ at the center of all we do.
